CReSV and UNICEF Italia: The Rights of Minors in the World of Business

AT THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL IN GENEVA, FRANCESCO PERRINI IS PART OF A DEBATE ON THE TOPIC OF THE RIGHTS OF MINORS IN COMPANIES AND INSTITUTIONS, IN COLLABORATION WITH UNICEF ITALIA

This year, Università Bocconi will take part in the 26th Session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The research center CReSV - Center for Research on Sustainability and Value, the Italian Permanent Mission to the UN and other international organizations, in cooperation with UNICEF Italia, will present an event on the topic “Business and Human Rights (BHR),” on 20 June 2014.

The event entitled “Human Rights in International Policy and Business Strategies. A Child Rights Perspective” is the first appointment in a series of meetings on the topic of BHR, based on recent studies by Oriana Perrone on CSR and BHR – in particular “Human Rights in Policy Decisions and Business Strategies. The Cooperative Role of the UN, Governments and Firms Within the Developing Scenario. The EU and Italian Experience.” The aim is to contribute to the international discussion on policies and business practices regarding BHR.

In this scenario, the event will make use of the long-standing experience and recent publications of the CReSV Center regarding share value and social entrepreneurship, combined with UNICEF’s empirical contribution.

The focus of the event will be on the protection of minors. UNICEF will include the example of the most recent international policies regarding the protection of minors in companies. In the same way, institutional representations and managers of multinational corporations will bring their points of view and experience to compare.

Francesco Perrini, a faculty member in the Department of Management and Technology and Director of CReSV, will introduce the topic of global interest for institutions and companies, highlighting the critical points and potential of future scenarios and he will also act as moderator (the full program is available here).

The innovative element of the event is its ability to take on the topic of Business and Human Rights with a multi-stakeholder and multidisciplinary approach. Academia’s contribution to international discussion lies not only in proposing new insights, but also in the ability to understand and manage the elements characterizing all stakeholders involved.
