Miles Gietzmann, an Expert in Corporate Disclosure

A NEW FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING

Miles Gietzmann has just entered the Bocconi’s Department of Accounting. Bocconi’s offer tempted him – he saw in it opportunities to work on corporate disclosure with his future colleagues. In particular, Gietzmann has intentions to look at the narrative disclosure by US listed companies.

Corporate disclosure is his key research topic and one could define it as any piece of information that public companies have to disclose to the investing public. Gietzmann research also branches out to include strategic cost management and securities regulation.

In one of his recent papers, Gietzmann looks at mergers and acquisitions and the assistance that institutional shareholders offer companies looking at potential targets abroad. Gietzmann affirms that companies benefit if the institutional shareholders have a specialized knowledge about the target as well as the environment in the country the particular target is in.

At Bocconi Gietzmann has already taught classes in the analysis and interpretation of financial statements and in strategic management accounting.

Before joining Bocconi, Gietzmann held positions in the Faculty of Finance at Cass Business School (City University London), Bristol University and London School of Economics. He earned his undergraduate degree at Newcastle University and his PhD degree at Durham University.
