Christiane Bode Looks at CSR through Employees' Eyes

THE NEW ASSISTANT PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING AND TECHNOLOGY COMES FROM INSEAD

Christiane Bode will be joining the Department of Management and Technology at Bocconi as an Assistant Professor after obtaining her Ph.D in Strategy at INSEAD. Originally from Germany, she spent the majority of her time at INSEAD on the Singapore campus.

This fall she will be teaching a management course for incoming students which covers areas ranging from competitive analysis to organizational culture and nonprofit organizations. Christiane is “really looking forward to teaching people at a very early stage in their journey at Bocconi”.

In her research, Christiane looks at corporate social responsibility (CSR) from the employees’ perspective.  Her recent work has examined how employee participation in projects with an explicit societal impact mandate (e.g. reducing poverty or inequality) affects employee performance and retention. She is now looking at the drivers of employee participation in such projects, in particular whether and when employees are willing to make personal sacrifices to be staffed on explicitly “social” projects.

Christiane is excited about her new life in Italy and is looking forward to collaborating with her colleagues, in particular, Maurizio Zollo and the GOLDEN network as well as Alfonso Gambardella, Claudio Panico, and Giovanni Valentini, to name a few.

Next on the agenda are finding the best restaurants in Milan and getting the insider scoop on travel in the region.
