Health, Circular Economy and Environment. Bocconi at MeetmeTonight

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY THE MILANESE UNIVERSITIES MEET THE CITIZENS, DISSEMINATING THEIR RESEARCH, AT VIA PALESTRO GARDENS AND THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Bocconi will be present, as main partner, at the fifth edition of MeetmeTonight (www.meetmetonight.it), two days dedicated to the research of the Milan universities, Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, October 1st.
 
The program, divided between the sites of the Indro Montanelli Gardens of Via Palestro (Friday and Saturday, 11am-10pm) and the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo Da Vinci, in Via San Vittore, (Friday 6pm-midnight) provides seventy interactive workshops and activities and fifty meetings with researchers, introduced by the live video of the landing of the Rosetta space probe on the 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet.
 
The presence of Bocconi will be reflected in three interactive workshops at the Via Palestro gardens. CERGAS, the Research Centre on Health and Social Care Management, presents ‘Decide well to live better’. The political and budget choices on the issues of health and social services are not simple: setting priorities, respecting limits and giving oneself precise objectives over time are crucial steps to make the best decisions. Through two simple games, it will be possible to reflect on the difficulty of choosing between objectives of general interest and about the awareness on health and social issues. Schoolchildren, in sessions reserved for them, will be called upon to simulate a session of the Regional Council, while the public will be tinkering with bows and arrows.
 
The ICrios, the Invernizzi Research Centre on Innovation, Organization, Strategy and Entrepreneurship, has given a clear title to their lab: ‘Rethinking products for a circular economy’. The researchers will show how it is possible to contribute to the environment by redesigning products and improving use and recycling. Indeed, they will show participants, because they will be asked to re-think, by simplifying them, the most commonly used products.
 
‘How much does selfishness cost’ is the workshop organized by Iefe, the Institute of economy and energy and environment policy. Participants will be invited to interact in structured games so that the highest prize is awarded only if and when everyone works together, but the temptation to pursue personal interests at the expense of others is very strong. Similarly, researchers think, everyone agrees on the need to introduce policies that reduce pollution and the effects on climate change, but few are then willing to give up an individual benefit to pursue this common good.
 
"There are at least two reasons why an event like MeetmeTonight is critical," says the rector of Bocconi, Andrea Sironi. "Firstly, because it allows universities to spread their research, meeting the public. Secondly, for the cooperation which is established between the universities of Milan.”
