Bocconi Scholars at MEETmeTONIGHT

WITH A STAND AND MANY SPEECHES, BOCCONI ACADEMICS WILL TACKLE SMART WORKING AND SMART MOBILITY, CONFLICTS AND RESOURCES, HEALTH CARE, BREXIT AND THE SPREAD OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES AT THE MILAN EDITION OF RESEARCHERS' NIGHT, FRIDAY 29 AND SATURDAY 30

Oliviero Baccelli, Amelia Compagni, Alessia Melegaro, Massimo Morelli, Paola Profeta and Piero Stanig, under the coordination of Valentina Bosetti, are the Bocconi scholars who will take part in MEETmeTONIGHT, the Milanese edition of the Researchers' Night, Friday 29 and Saturday 30 September at Giardini Montanelli in via Palestro and (only on 29th September) at the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia in via San Vittore.

The initiative, promoted by the European Commission, aims at disseminating scientific culture and knowledge of research professions in a fun and stimulating context. The great success of the five previous editions testifies to the interest of citizens.

The Bocconi stand at Giardini Montanelli (Friday 2pm-10pm, Saturday 11am-9pm) will go under the banner of Smart Working & Smart Mobility: new ways of working and moving. With the scientific supervision of Oliviero Baccelli and Paola Profeta, CERTET and Dondena centres researchers will propose some tests, aimed at dispelling the most common false myths on the subject.

Bocconi will also propose three talks on topical subjects, covering a significant portion of the University's research spectrum. Massimo Morelli (Saturday 30, 4pm) will talk about Conflicts and Natural Resources. The scholar, on the basis of his research, will highlight how the imbalance between the distribution of political power and economic power is one of the deep roots of conflict in countries characterized by ethnic or religious divisions.

At 5:30 pm, Amelia Compagni will address the issue of Public Health System: too much or too little? After having described the arguments in favor of both theses, she will defend a concept of sustainability of the public health system that takes into account not only the economic aspect, but also the socio-political dimension.

Piero Stanig, at 6:30pm., will highlight the reasons that led the British electorate to decide for Brexit. In particular, the analysis of the economic and electoral data shows that it was mainly manufacturing areas, which were most affected by Chinese competition, that voted for the Leave.

Alessia Melegaro, lastly, at 7:30pm on Friday 29, will be among the protagonists of Champions League: a research champion every 4 minutes, a series of fast-paced presentations of research projects funded by the European Research Council.
