Percoco Joins the Organizing Committee of the Global Conference in Economic Geography

HE WILL BE IN CHARGE OF THE SESSIONS ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Marco Percoco (Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management) has been selected to take part in the Organizing Committee of the Global Conference in Economic Geography (19-22 August 2015) that is going to gather geographers, policy makers, regional scientists and researchers from around the world in the prestigious location of the University of Oxford in order to face the latest challenges of economic geography.

The Great Recession that started in 2008 has made atransformation of the world economy imperative in order to address the challenges of unstable and unequal development. Economic geography, with its focus on uneven development, is well positioned to map such transformations. From South to South economic relations to climate change, from the latest regulatory reforms to digital technologies: these are the key themes that will be at the centre of the 2015 edition of the Conference, which is entitled “Mapping Economies in Transformation” and aims at exploring their implications, and formulating new ways in which economies can be conceptualized.

“Following the previous editions of SingaporeBeijing and Seoul”, Percoco explains, “this upcoming fourth edition of the Conference is particularly important as for the first time it will take place in Europe where, unlike other regions, we have made concrete efforts for the implementation of specific policies of regional development.”

Marco Percoco is a regional economist and a professor at Università Bocconi, where he teaches economic prospects and policy evaluation. Recruited in the Committee as the author of the most innovative papers within the theme of regional economies, Percoco will be in charge of the sessions on Regional Development.
