In Mumbai Discussion on Accountancy and Financial Communication

MISB BOCCONI HAS HOSTED ITS FIRST SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE, OF THE JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING, AUDITING AND FINANCE

MISB Bocconi, the Mumbai International School of Business, opened in 2012 by Bocconi through SDA Bocconi School of Management, has hosted with great success its first international scientific conference, the ‘2015 Conference and Special Issue’ of the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance (JAAF). A three-day conference to discuss about Fair Value, quality and transparency of accounting and about financial communication in emerging countries.

The conference was held January 8-10 and was co-organised by JAAF, SDA Bocconi and the Indian school of Business of Hyderabad, in collaboration with PWC Italy.

The theme of the conference, conceived by the three guest editors Kashi R. Balachandran, Stern School of Business, Sanjay Kallapur, Indian School of Business and Antonio Marra, of the Department of Accounting at Università Bocconi (who also coordinated the organization of the event), was ‘Research Challenges in Accounting and Finance in a Globalized Economy: Fair value measurements, valuation models, and management practices’

The guest editors selected 11 papers which analysed, among other things, critical aspects of Fair Value accounting, and how it fits into the particular context of emerging countries which is still sensitive to the themes of transparency, ethics and quality of financial reporting. Andrea Dossi and Laura Zoni, of SDA Bocconi, presented their paper “Quality of Performance Measurement Systems of Intangibles and Goodwill Impairment Losses”.

The papers presented can be consulted here: http://www.misbbocconi.com/jaaf-papers/

Among the participants, apart from the guest editors, the keynote speakers Bala Dharan, Harvard Law School, Joshua Ronen, Stern School of Business, Jake Thomas, Yale, Bikki Jaggi, Rutgers University and Giorgio Gotti, President of the International Section of the American Accounting Section.

The conference also discussed relevant issues for professionals with a dedicated panel with CEOs and top executives of some Indian companies.
