Nicolai Foss Elected Fellow of the Strategic Management Society

THE RODOLFO DEBENEDETTI CHAIR OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IS THE FIFTH PROFESSOR OF BOCCONI'S DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT TO RECEIVE THE HONOR

The number of Fellows of the Strategic Management Society (SMS) is currently 82, and, after the appointment on September 23th of Nicolai Foss, Rodolfo Debenedetti Chair of Entrepreneurship, five of them come from Bocconi’s Department of Management and Technology, including Alfonso Gambardella, Robert Grant, Torben Pedersen and Maurizio Zollo.

«I’m honored not only for myself, but also for the Department, because this further confirms that it is one of most important centers for management research in the world», prof. Foss says. The Fellowship is assigned «in recognition of distinguished and scholarly contribution» by a 9-person-strong Membership Committee.

«The purpose of the Fellows is to recognize and honor members of the SMS who have made significant contributions to the theory and practice of strategic management, and who exemplify the founding principles and purposes of the Strategic Management Society itself», the Dean of the SMS Fellows, Irene Duhaime, wrote in a welcome to her colleagues.  In his humorous induction speech, Professor Jay Barney, University of Utah, said: “I hate him. Nicolai has written more papers, contributed to more literatures, and had a bigger influence than almost anyone else in the SMS”.

With more than 3,000 members from over 80 countries and different backgrounds (academics, business practitioners and consultants), the SMS is a professional society for the advancement of strategic management established in 1981.
