The Schumpeter Prize 2012 Goes to Franco Malerba and Luigi Orsenigo

Awarded by the International Schumpeter Society to academics who have distinguished themselves for their contribution on the theme of innovation

At the beginning of July the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society, during the Schumpeter Conference 2012 in Brisbane, Australia, awarded to Franco Malerba,Department of Management and Technology and director of Kites Bocconi (Knowledge, internationalization and technology studies),and to Luigi Orsenigo, IUSS of Pavia e KITeS Bocconi, the Schumpeter Prize 2012.

The prize, already awarded in the past to among others Christopher Freeman, Philippe Aghion, Masahiko Aoki and Steven Klepper, is awarded in recognition to academics who in recent years have provided a contribution of international scientific relevance on the theme of innovation. It has been awarded to Malerba and Orsenigo for the book 'Innovation and the evolution of industries: history-friendly models', of imminent publication by Cambridge University Press, written together with Richard Nelson (Columbia University) and Sydney Winter (Wharton School).

"The book proposes a new generation of economic models able to examine the relationship between innovation, change in industrial leadership and evolution of industries," explains Malerba, "keeping in consideration the characteristics of the sectors in which innovation occurs and the temporal dynamics of of competition, technology and demand."

Founded in 1986, the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society has members in over 40 countries and organizes an international conference every two years.
