Bocconi Welcomes Sungtak Hong, a Scholar of Consumer Decisions

A DEGREE FROM SOGANG UNIVERSITY IN SEOUL, A MASTER OF SCIENCE FROM LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, THEN A PHD FROM THE LONDON BUSINESS SCHOOL. AND NOW THE BOCCONI DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING, WHERE HE'S BEEN WORKING AS ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

This autumn has brought a new talent to the Department of Marketing: Sungtak Hong, who has obtained his Ph.D in Marketing at London Business School, is now working at Bocconi as an Assistant Professor. His research focuses on the inter-related decisions made by manufacturers, retailers and consumers with respect to product variety in competitive markets. His work will appear in a forthcoming edition of the Journal of Marketing.

Prior to the Ph.D he graduated in Economics at the Sogang University, in Seoul, he took a Master of Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science and then worked as a Research Fellow at the International Growth Centre in London. One of his greatest passions, beyond research, is travelling. He has travelled across five continents: “I like to visit new places and to meet people from diverse cultures”, he explains. “I usually rent a car and drive without specific itinerary. While living in the UK for the past 8 years, I travelled extensively in the country and I hope to do so in Italy too”.

“I believe Bocconi will provide me with a great environment where I can grow as a competent researcher and teacher”, says Hong, who already visited this university in the past. “I was impressed by the open and relaxed environment of the Department of Marketing, and this has certainly played a significant role in my decision to move to Milan. Also I'm looking forward to learning Italian!".
