Kelly Xing Chen at Bocconi. To Teach Corporate Governance

A SCHOLAR OF THE SOCIOLOGICAL AND BEHAVIORAL PERSPECTIVES OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE ACROSS INSTITUTIONAL CONTEXTS, SHE'S NOW PART OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY

Kelly Chen's been teaching Business Administration and Business Management, and Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethics in Business in the Department of Management & Technology since last September. “I know that the Department is made up of competent researchers with expertise in different areas, thing that will encourage many collaboration opportunities”, says the new Assistant Professor.

Her research focuses on sociological and behavioral perspectives of corporate governance across institutional contexts. “In particular I’m interested in board of directors, media governance and corporate ownership”, points out Chen, who obtained her PhD at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, specializing in Strategic Management and International Business. After graduation, she continued her corporate governance research at Northeastern University in Boston. She also taught management at Chinese University of Hong Kong and worked as a research fellow at City University of Hong Kong.

Chen has always wanted to teach, but the moment she realized she would have pursued her career in academia was during an internship in the years of her bachelor: “I started asking myself many questions, such as why the companies make some strategic decisions and why the firm aims to maximize shareholder value. Research was my answer”, she says. “Having moved to Milan is an opportunity to learn. I am very interested in cultural diversity, in the field of research as well as in everyday life. I hope my research can help to understand interesting governance phenomena and appreciate the differences across institutional context”.
