Francesco Daveri, a Return in a Brand New Role

, by Claudio Todesco
The macroeconomist will be a Professor of practice in the business school of the university where he graduated. He will also be the Full Time MBA's new Director

Starting from September 1st, Francesco Daveri will hold the role of Professor of practice at SDA Bocconi School of Management, where he will be the Director of the Full-Time MBA program from the 43rd edition, 2017-2018. "In this way I return to the business school of the university where I graduated", he says. Internationally, the academic rank of Professor of practice applies to members of faculty with high-level business experience. "SDA Bocconi is introducing this new position for professors involved in teaching, research and industry", Daveri says.

As the Director of the Full-Time MBA program, Daveri will face a demanding challenge: to strengthen and improve SDA Bocconi's positioning in international rankings, carrying on the process that led the business school to reach 22nd place in the world and 9th in Europe in the Global MBA Financial Times ranking. "Programs are evaluated through a wide range of criteria. We aim to get better results in each parameter: salary increase after the MBA, career progress, faculty diversity, the number of articles published by faculty members, the effectiveness of the school careers service. To put it in a nutshell, it requires a 360 degrees care of management education".

Francesco Daveri entered SDA Bocconi right after graduation, some thirty years ago, as teaching assistant at the evening MBA program. "I tutored students to use a software written in Basic. It allowed them to control the dynamics that drive the national economy. I was impressed by the relevance and the immediate applications of SDA programs". He was then a researcher at the University of Brescia, Associate and Full Professor of Economic Policy in Parma and finally at Università Cattolica in Piacenza. His relationship with SDA Bocconi strengthened in 2000 when he started teaching Macroeconomics in the Full-TimeMBA program, in tandem with Francesco Giavazzi.

Among other things, Professor Daveri was consultant to the World Bank in Washington and the European Commission in Brussels. He writes op-eds for the Italian daily Corriere della Sera and he is the managing editor at lavoce.info, the economy and politics website that has recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. "It is a community made up of professors, readers, editors, contributors. The use of collective intelligence allows us to share better explanations of phenomena. I want to manage the Full-Time MBA and give my contribution to SDA Bocconi following the same principle: working with other people makes you better at what you do".
