Paola Profeta in IIPF's Board of Management

, by Fabio Todesco
The appointment was announced at the Annual Conference of the International Institute of Public Finance in Tampere, Finland

Paola Profeta (Department of Social and Political Sciences) has been elected in the Board of Management of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF), the world organization of Public Finance economists established in 1937. A 20-strong lineup, the Board of Management is the governing body of the organization.

Prof. Profeta is one of three new members announced last week at the IIPF Annual Conference held in Tampere, Finland, while three more were confirmed.

With its 750 members from over 50 countries, coming from universities and civil service in industrialized and developing countries alike, the IIPF aims at playing a role in giving economics an orientation towards the real world.

As a member of the Board, Prof. Profeta will capitalize on another of her research strands, gender studies. «IIPF promotes public finance studies among the young», she says, «and I intend to be particularly active in promoting them among young female researchers, who are as good as their male counterparts, but still face higher hurdles in developing their careers».

Furthermore, as the only Italian Board member, Prof. Profeta will make a priority to strengthen the impact of rigorous research on Italian policy making. «In Italy», she says, «public finance issues have been a deep concern for decades, but both scholars and policy makers should strive to have a better dialogue – the academics choosing relevant topics for their research, the politicians listening to experts and academics».
