Paola Profeta (Department of Social and Political Sciences) has been elected President of the European Public Choice Society at the EPCS 2019 Meeting in Jerusalem (1-4 April), with immediate effect.

«The European Public Choice Society», the mission statement goes, «aims at promoting scientific research on the economic and interdisciplinary analysis of non-market decision making processes and institutions, and to facilitate the exchange of work and ideas about it», analyzing political decisions of public policy. Their most recent annual meetings have been attended by around 350 people from 30 countries.

Prof. Profeta is the first woman presiding the society since 1974. «During my two-year term», she says, «I'll promote female participation. All too often even the female winners of our Wicksell Prize, reserved for papers by under-30 authors, end up interrupting their academic careers».

The President, assisted by a nine-strong Board, organizes the annual meeting of the society and delivers the presidential address, which is not a simple welcome. «On these occasions, I will tackle issues related to my scientific interests, such as gender economics and women in politics», Prof. Profeta says.
