Annalisa Prencipe to Lead the European Accounting Association

APPOINTED PRESIDENT ELECT, SHE WILL WORK BESIDE THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT FOR ONE YEAR AND WILL THEN TAKE OVER THE REINS OF THE ASSOCIATION

Annalisa Prencipe, KPMG Chair in Accounting and Dean of the Bocconi Undergraduate School, has been appointed President Elect of the European Accounting Association (EAA). The EAA is an association with more than 2,000 members, mostly European academics, but in which both scholars from other parts of the world and practitioners, especially representatives of standard setting agencies, are beginning to find a place.

As President Elect, Professor Prencipe will now join the outgoing President Thorsten Sellhorn (Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich) for one year and then succeed him. Presidency is a two-year office. The selection of the President Elect is a process that lasts several months. It starts with the members suggesting names of their liking to the Management Committee, which then chooses among these names the candidate to be submitted to the Board and the General Assembly.

The appointment crowns a commitment to the Association of 20 years by Prencipe. She joined the association immediately after earning her PhD and has already been a member of both the Publications Committee (which she also chaired) and the Management Committee.

“The trends already underway that I will have to sustain in the coming years,” says Prof. Prencipe, “are digitization, the involvement of young scholars and greater integration between researchers from different countries and research models. From the cousins of the American Accounting Association we should learn to promote a more assiduous dialogue with practitioners, highlighting the relevance of our research. We should also, however, preserve the greater variety of our research, safeguarding non-mainstream approaches, such as qualitative approaches, which derive from the European tradition”.
