, by Fabio Todesco
The Professor of Constitutional Law was awarded for the fairness and competence that earned her the presidency of the Constitutional Court

"For the fairness and competence that earned her the presidency of the Constitutional Court. First woman of the Republic to reach such a goal and symbol of an unstoppable path towards equality." It was with this motivation, read by Sabino Cassese, that Marta Cartabia, Full Professor of Constitutional Law at Bocconi, won the Bellisario Prize in the Institutions category. The award was presented during a ceremony, broadcast on Saturday 17 October on Rai1.

Established in 1989 in memory of Marisa Bellisario, one of the first Italian woman managers to achieve great fame, the award recognizes "women who do not give up, who fight for their ideas and projects, who represent an opportunity for the development of our country and for the cultural growth of society."

A member of the Constitutional Court since 2011, Cartabia served as its President from 2019 until the end of her term of office, on 13 September 2020. Marta Cartabia worked at the University of Milan, the University of Verona and Bicocca, and now teaches courses in Italian and European Constitutional Law and Advanced Constitutional Law/Constitutional Justice at Bocconi.
