An Embrace for Francesco Daveri

THE BOCCONI COMMUNITY REMEMBERS THE ECONOMIST AND ALUMNUS WHO LED THE SDA BOCCONI MBA FOR FOUR EDITIONS, STARTING IN 2017

Student, alumnus, professor: Francesco Daveri, who passed away last night, was a point of reference for the entire Bocconi community.

"In addition to being an excellent researcher, Francesco was a passionate and curious economist always ready to accept new professional challenges, including that of being the first economist to direct an MBA," recalls Gianmario Verona, Rector of Bocconi. "We will miss him as a researcher and professor, but we will especially miss the grace and irony with which he faced even the most complex challenges. A keen observer of macroeconomic phenomena, he had the gift of knowing how to explain and make everyone understand the complexity of the reality we live in".

Francesco held a Degree in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, an MSc in Development Economics from Oxford University and a PhD in Political Economy from the University of Pavia. He was a researcher at the University of Brescia, associate professor and then full professor of Economic Policy at Parma and finally at Cattolica in Piacenza. He returned to Bocconi in 2017 as professor of practice at SDA Bocconi School of Management and director of the Full-Time MBA program.

"With great courage he embraced the challenge of being the first Professor of practice in Macroeconomics at SDA Bocconi," recalls Giuseppe Soda, Dean of SDA Bocconi. “Our community loses a dear friend, a passionate teacher loved by the students, an eclectic intellectual but, above all, a good and generous person, capable of transmitting enthusiasm and a positive outlook on life.  We will always remember his great humanity, his free vision, his love for teaching and economics, his integrity."

Francesco Daveri served as a consultant, researcher and research coordinator at the World Bank in Washington and at the European Commission in Brussels.
