Kapacinskaite Nominated Among Top 5 for Two Dissertation Awards at AOM

UPDATE: KAPACINSKAITE WON THETIM DIVISION BEST DISSERTATION AWARD AT THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT

Aldona Kapacinskaite, Assistant Professor at Bocconi’s Department of Management and Technology, won the TIM Division Best Dissertation Award, presented by one of the divisions of the Academy of Management at its Annual meeting. Dr Kapacinskaite's PhD dissertation had also been selected in the final round, among the top five, for the STR Division Wiley Blackwell Outstanding Dissertation Award.

The Academy of Management, founded in 1936, is a preeminent professional association for management and organization scholars. Its global community today is nearly 18,000 strong and spans over 120 countries.

Kapacinskaite’s dissertation is entitled Essays on Environmental Change and Innovation Strategy. It studies different stages of the innovation process from invention (coming up with something new), through refinement (how to improve inventions over time), to adoption (how firms pick a certain technology once there is a variety of technologies) of technology and investigates the incentives to innovate engendered by environmental change.

Each year, AOM presents awards to members in recognition of outstanding contributions, professional accomplishments, and distinguished service at AOM’s Annual Meeting. Specifically, Dissertation Awards are given to outstanding doctoral dissertations. Each AOM division has its own awards program.

TIM - Technology and Innovation Management - Division of the Academy of Management brings together scholars interested in innovation, research and development, and the management of technology-based organizations. The division encourages interdisciplinary scholarship and dialogue on the management of innovation and technological change from a variety of perspectives, including strategic, managerial, behavioral, and operational issues.

STR - Strategic Management - Division encourages and supports the development and dissemination of knowledge relevant to general managers and those who study, shape, or influence the strategy of organizations, as well as effective teaching of these issues. Division scholars seek to understand and predict when and why some firms perform better than others over time. The division covers several topics associated with strategic decision-making processes, their antecedents/context, and their consequences.

Kapacinskaite presented her work on the 8th of August at the Best Dissertation Finalists’ Presentations, and the award winners were proclaimed on the same day.
