, by Weiwei Chen
IWRZ is a German journal which provides practice oriented, comprehensive information on the principal aspects of international business law

Maximilian van der Beck, LL.M. Alumnus in European Business and Social Law, has had his thesis, "Intra-EU investment protection in the energy sector – The Komstroy decision of the ECJ," published on IWRZ (Journal of International Business Law) by C.H.BECK.

The thesis investigates the mechanism for the settlement of disputes between investors and host governments. In particular, it illustrates the case of international arbitration in intra-EU investment protection in the energy sector. "It is about a very specific and special case, decided upon by the European Court of Justice, and I am grateful to Professor Paola Mariani, who helped me a lot by giving valuable input from the beginning," van der Beck said.

After a PhD in International Investment Law, Maximilian van der Beck decided to take the LL.M. Master in European Business and Social Law at Bocconi, which prepares participants to be experts of European legal systems and institutions.

"I actually started to write my thesis quite early in the Master program because from the beginning my aim was to get it published in a journal," says van der Beck. "Moreover, I had a clear idea of the topic that I wanted to examine since it was a follow up question to my PhD studies. Besides, my knowledge on the topic was further deepened during the Master classes."

The LLM in European Business and Social Law is a Master fully devoted to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the European Union's legal system . Teaching combines theoretical topics with a hands-on approach, including analysis of cases and rulings and participation in legal competitions. The program's focus on law at a European and global level facilitates a successful entrance for its students into the international market.
