Commitment to Making Economics Accessible Honored

, by Andrea Costa
Tito Boeri celebrated by CEPR for his multiple initiatives aimed at disseminating policy relevant science

The Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) has awarded Bocconi economist Tito Boeri with a Special Service to the Profession prize during its recent annual symposium held in Paris.

The motivation behind this recognition highlighted Boeri's longstanding efforts in making economics more policy-relevant and accessible to non-specialists. CEPR commended Boeri for embodying the organization's mission of research excellence.

Boeri played a key role in the creation of the Lavoce.info website in 2002. The platform has since been providing accessible, authoritative, objective, and impartial information and analysis on crucial economic and policy issues in Italy and beyond. Besides, Boeri's involvement in the Festival dell'Economia from 2006 initially in Trento and more recently in Torino underscored his commitment to bringing economics closer to the public. The festival successfully facilitated interactions between internationally renowned scholars, policymakers, trade unionists, and journalists, fostering meaningful discussions on contemporary issues.

Finally, in 2015, shortly after becoming President of the Italian Social Security Institute (INPS), Boeri started the "VisitINPS scholars" program. This initiative allows scholars interested in public policy evaluation to have full access to Italian social security archives and spend a few months at INPS's headquarters interacting with the officials implementing the policies to be evaluated.

The CEPR, an independent and non-partisan organization, was founded in 1983 "to enhance the quality of economic policy-making within Europe and beyond, by fostering high quality, policy-relevant economic research, and disseminating it widely to decision-makers in the public and private sectors."
