The ECB Extends the Tommaso Padoa Schioppa Visiting Professorship for Five More Years

THE CURRENT VISITING PROFESSOR, ANDREA CARRIERO, IS WORKING ON MACROECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY

The European Central Bank (ECB) has extended for five more years, until academic year 2020-2021, the agreement with Bocconi University for the Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Visiting Professorship.

The Visiting Professorship, inaugurated in academic year 2012-2013, is funded by the ECB in memory of one of the most illustrious Bocconi alumni, among the founding fathers of the Euro and member of the ECB’s Executive Board from 1998 to 2005.

The ECB funds the professorship with the aim of bringing each year to Bocconi an outstanding international scholar to pursue activity of study, research and teaching linked to the theme of economics and European monetary policy. The ECB contributes to this aim with an annual donation of 30,000 euro. The list of past Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Visiting Professors includes Alberto Alesina, Kenneth Allen Shepsle and Fabrizio Zilibotti.

The Tommaso-Padoa Schioppa Visiting Professor for academic year 2016-2017 is Andrea Carriero, Professor of Economics at Queen Mary University of London. A Bocconi graduate and PhD and a former consultant to the British Treasury (Debt Management Office), he also served as a intern in the Monetary Policy Strategy Division of the ECB.

Professor Carriero’s research focuses on empirical macroeconomics and the econometrics of large datasets. During his term as Visiting Professor, he is working on a joint project with Massimiliano Marcellino (Bocconi University) and Todd  Clark (Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland) on the effects of uncertainty on macroeconomic fluctuations and the financial markets.
