How Bocconi Faculty Is Growing in 2019 and 2020

IN ADDITION TO THE TWELVE NEW PROFESSORS RECRUITED THIS YEAR ON THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC MARKET, TWO MORE WILL JOIN THE UNIVERSITY AT THE BEGINNING OF 2020

In 2019 Bocconi recruited 12 new professors from the international academic market, with two more figures planned for early 2020.
 
Two of the new professors have reinforced the Bocconi faculty at the beginning of the year. Giada Di Stefano, an Associate Professor, joined the Department of Management and Technology in February. A graduate and PhD from Bocconi, Prof. Di Stefano has been teaching for several years at HEC Paris before returning to Milan. Her research interests concern the incentives of individuals and organizations to share knowledge, as well as the way in which knowledge is created in the first place.
 
Cristoph Feinauer also joined Bocconi in February, as assistant professor at the Department of Decision Sciences. A German with a doctorate at Politecnico di Torino, before joining Bocconi he worked at Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris and at a German company, as a researcher of machine learning, his area of interest also at Bocconi.
 
Luca Trevisan, currently Professor of Computer Science at the University of California Berkeley, will take up the position of Full Professor and strengthen the area of computer science at the Department of Decision Sciences from next September. Upon his arrival at Bocconi, Prof. Trevisan will start the research project Spectral and Optimization Techniques for Robust Recovery, Combinational Constructions, and Distributed Algorithms (SO-ReCoDi), funded by the European Research Council with an Advanced Grant.
 
From the same date, the Department of Decision Sciences will also benefit from the contribution of Giacomo Zanella as Assistant Professor.  A Bayesian statistician, Prof. Zanella has a PhD in Statistics from Warwick University and has already been a post-Doctoral Researcher at Bocconi.
 
Three assistant professors will start working at the Department of Marketing and Technology from September 1. Tracy Anderson, from England, graduated from the London School of Economics in 1999 and has been working for a long time in non-academic research institutions before returning to university for a PhD at Wharton. She researches collaboration, worker mobility, and careers.
 
Luisa Gagliardi returns to Bocconi, where she graduated, from the University of Geneva, where she is an Assistant Professor. After the MSc in Economics and Management for Public Administratiuon and Internationl Institutions at Bocconi, she got a MSc in Local Economic Development at the London School of Econonmics and a PhD at IMT in Lucca. Her studies are at the intersection of economic geography, innovation strategies and international business.
 
Sandeep Pillai is an Indian who has conducted his higher education studies in Canada and the United States, with a PhD at the University of Maryland. He combines management and history, with studies on the evolution of the automotive industry and business strategy.
 
Two Assistant Professors are recruited by the Department of Social and Political Sciences. Marlene Jugl, a German, joins Bocconi after a PhD at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin to carry out comparative studies on politics and public administration.
 
Mattia Fochesato, a scholar of economic history and inequality, after his doctorate at the University of Siena was a Research Fellow at SciencesPo and a Post Doctoral Associate at New York University Abu Dhabi. He joins Bocconi from the University of Basel, where he holds the position of Assistant Professor.
 
Xiaoxi Wu, a Chinese with a PhD at Lancaster University, becomes an Assistant Professor at the Department of Accounting. She studies the effects of financial communication, using tools that allow her to analyze the language and the personality of the actors involved.
 
Sungkyun Moon, a Korean with a PhD from Singapore Management University, will research at the Department of Marketing. Moon studies the financial implications of marketing actions and of the disclosure of marketing costs.
 
Giuseppe Primerano, an administrative law scholar with a PhD at Tor Vergata University, becomes an Assistant Professor at the Department of Legal Studies.
 
In early 2020, two new arrivals are already scheduled. Icelandic Josef Sigurdsson will join the Department of Economics. He studied in his home country and at the University of Warwick before taking a PhD in Economics at Stockholm University. His main focus is on labour economics.
 
Catherine De Vries, currently Westerdijk Professor in Political Behavior at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will hold the position of Full Professor at the Department of Social and Political Sciences. «I am a political scientist interested in unravelling some of the most important challenges facing the European continent today», she says of herself, «such as Euroscepticism, political fragmentation, migration and corruption».
