, by Fabio Todesco
On 31 March and 1 April, the SMS Special Conference will be the most important event of the year for those who think that it is people that make the difference in organizations

On 31 March and 1 April Bocconi will host the most important event of the year for academics who study human capital. Two hundred and fifty scholars from around the world will meet in Milan for a Strategic Management Society (SMS) Special Conference devoted to Strategic Human Capital, Management Practices and Performance. Two of the four organizers of the conference (Nicolai Foss and Alfonso Gambardella) are Bocconi professors and another Bocconi scholar, Claudio Panico, will coordinate the PhD Workshop. Also involved in various capacities are Anna Grandori (on the Advisory Board), Arnaldo Camuffo (on the Advisory Board and on the Organization Design and Management Practices discussion panel), Eliana La Ferrara and Jérôme Adda (both in the Research Methods panel).

"At Bocconi we have deemed the human resources topic of great importance and therefore we asked SMS to organize the special conference", says Gambardella, who heads Bocconi's Department of Management and Technology. "In fact, not only was the proposal accepted, but the number of registered scholars makes it a major special conference." Among the emerging issues: organization design and the use of microdata in measurements.
