Checking up on the Italian National Healthcare System

, by Fabio Todesco
Friday, 27 November, the results of the 2015 OASI Report will be released. The books are balanced, but the NHS can't find enough money to invest in new equipment and technologies

The Italian National Healthcare System may balance its books for the third year in a row, even in Regions used to large deficits in the past. International comparisons show healthy management indicators, but unmet health needs are on the rise. It seems there isn't any more room for rationalization, while rationing has a dark side.

If the profit and loss account is in good shape, furthermore, the same can't be said for the statement of assets and liabilities, and the system can't find enough money to invest in new equipment and technologies.

These facts are the heart of the 2015 OASI Report, the volume by Bocconi's Center for Research on Health and Social Care Management (CERGAS) and SDA Bocconi School of Management which presents the results of the Observatory on public health units and the National Healthcare System. The event (SSN Fast Forward. Il Rapporto OASI e le proposte per il SSN, in Italian) will be held on Friday, 27 November, 9:00am, Aula Magna via Roentgen.
