IMPORTANT INITIATIVES AIMED AT YOUNG RESEARCHERS

As part of the 2022 edition of Open Access Week, a seminar is being held today at Bocconi in two separate sessions, one on transformative contracts and the other on the Iris Wikidata project.

Transformative contracts are contracts negotiated between institutions and publishers that, as the name implies, transform the business model underlying academic publishing; instead of paying a subscription to access content, there is a shift to a model in which publishers are paid a fair price for an open access to their publishing services. This topic will be addressed by Paola Galimberti (University of Milan).

The Iris Wikidata project aims to create search paths along which information about each researcher and their scholarly output can be explored, wherever it may be found: national and foreign library catalogs, encyclopedia entries, Wikipedia, biographies, international systems. Stefano Bargioni (Pontifical University of the Holy Cross) and Carlo Bianchini (University of Pavia) will discuss.

This is the first time this type of seminar has been held at Bocconi, and to underscore the importance of the event there will be research pro-rector Jerome Adda to introduce it.

Continuing on the line of "Open Science," the network of European universities Civica Research (of which Bocconi is part along with the London School of Economics, SciencesPo and other prestigious institutions in the social sciences) will be organizing two training sessions at Bocconi for young researchers this November. The first will deal with the Horizon Europe program that makes funds allocated by the Commission available for research in European universities. The second will address the issue of metadata in academic publications.
