Andrea Resti to Advise the European Parliament

THE PROFESSOR OF FINANCE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED AS AN ADVISOR TO THE ECONOMIC AND MONETARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Andrea Resti, Associate Professor at Bocconi’s Department of Finance, has been confirmed in his capacity as advisor to the European Parliament for banking supervision. The appointment follows a public call for academics of international standing in the field. After a selection procedure delayed by the COVID emergency, Resti will be in office for the whole European Parliament term.

Professor Resti will provide the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament with information reports and, if requested, hearings on topics related to the European Central Bank (ECB) and, in particular, the activities of  ECB’s Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). By a curious coincidence both the Committee and the Supervisory Board of the SSM are chaired by Italians: Irene Tinagli and Andrea Enria.

Professor Resti held the same office during the previous European Parliament term, when the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee was chaired by the current Italian Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance, Roberto Gualtieri. Among the topics he had to advise on were non-performing loans (and the related jurisdictional conflict between the ECB and the Parliament) and the professional requirements of bank directors.
