Luca Trevisan New Fellow of the ACM

THE FELLOWSHIP ACKNOWLEDGES OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SERVICE TO THE ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTING MACHINERY

Luca Trevisan, Full Professor at Bocconi’s Department of Decision Sciences, was elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for contributions to complexity theory and combinatorial optimization.

The Association for Computing Machinery recognizes as Fellows the top 1% of ACM Members for their outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology and/or outstanding service to the ACM and the larger computing community. The accomplishments of the 2021 ACM Fellows underpin important innovations that shape the technologies we use every day.

New Fellows are nominated by their peers, with nominations reviewed by a distinguished selection committee. This year, ACM has named 70 members ACM Fellows for wide-ranging and fundamental contributions in areas including algorithms, computer science education, cryptography, data security and privacy, medical informatics, and mobile and networked systems ─ among many other areas.

According to Professor Trevisan, “Until now, there were less than 10 Fellows from Italy. We hope that with the establishment of the new Department of Computing Sciences and our ongoing recruitment process, Bocconi will contribute in the next decade to double this number in Italy.”

ACM is a global scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the science, engineering, and application of computing, serving both professional and public interests by fostering the open exchange of information and by promoting the highest professional and ethical standards. As the world’s largest computing society, ACM’s reach extends to every part of the globe, with more than half of its nearly 100,000 members residing outside the U.S.  Its growing membership has led to Councils in Europe, India, and China, fostering networking opportunities that strengthen ties within and across countries and technical communities.
