Eleanor Spaventa at a European Parliament's AFCO Committee Public Hearing

SHE ADDRESSED THE TOPIC OF THE RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN DIFFERENT RIGHTS IN EUROPEAN COURT OF JUSTICE'S DECISIONS

Eleanor Spaventa, Full professor of European Law at Bocconi University, gave a speech, yesterday, at a public hearing of European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO)on Legality and Legitimacy in the EU Integration Process.
 
«I explained that the European Court of Justice is much more open than expected to criticism on the legitimacy of its decisions», says Prof. Spaventa summarizing her speech regarding case law on the right balance of different kinds of rights: social, economic, fundamental.
 
With this hearing, the Committee wanted to gather expertise on the relationship between legality and legitimacy as a central element for devising initiatives aiming at regaining citizen's trust and allowing for a possible evolution of European integration, based on respect for the founding values of the Union.
